Unbeknownst to members and residents, negotiations were taking place to sell the club to the Jaworski Group, a.k.a. Garrisons Lake Golf Club, Inc., in 2000. Rumors flew, and the day after the settlement of the sale, letters went out to all members saying the new owners were offering 100 memberships based on a “lottery system.” Members were to send in applications and names would be drawn to decide who would get a membership. Mass exodus occurred, with hundreds of members choosing to play golf elsewhere. Obviously, it was a poor business decision to send these letters in January when membership renewals generating good income would have taken place in early spring. It became apparent the new owners were not interested in keeping loyal members. In a short amount of time, the course was poorly maintained, and the pool was closed, filled in and turned into a yard. Supposedly, the plan was to offer golf “outings” where people would be bused in from other Jaworksi golf courses to play in yet another of “his” clubs. Members and homeowners at Garrisons Lake gradually understood the motive behind their actions; what they did, how long they had been at it and how they got where they were.
